Viz Media confirmed today it acquired the rights to Boruto: Naruto Next Generation and has partnered with Hulu to bring it to American audiences. Viz Media also confirmed that the series premiere will simulcast at the same time that the show premieres in Japan on April 5.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generation follows Naruto’s son, Boruto, and his friends as they train to become ninjas in the Hidden Leaf village. Naruto, who became the seventh Hokage (leader of his village) in the finale of Naruto Shippuden will be a part of the series but will not play as big of a role.
Naruto ran for 220 episodes between October 2002 and 2007, before Naruto Shippuden launched. That series ran for close to a decade, and finally ended on its 500th episode.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generation will premiere on April 5 for Hulu subscribers. The series will also be available to stream on Viz’s website and Crunchyroll.
