the core of it is that the entire russian empire was a potemkin project. he's saying it was a germanic overclass trying to bootstrap a high civ on a substrate that just wasn't compatible. is there any actual historical basis for that take? because it sounds wild. but then he starts dropping evidence that's hard to dismiss, like the state of their capital. i mean,a literal sewer getting constantly farmed by cholera in the late 1800s? is that a legit portrayal of the situation back then? because if it is, that feels less like a policy choice and more like a fundamntal hardware problem. and if that's the reality, it makes all the modern talk about 'muh holy russia' start to seem like a massive cope narrative. a story they have to tell themselves to avoid looking at a pretty grim origin. i mean, how else could you interpret it?
so i'm genuinely trying to figure this out. is this creator just a masterful propagandist running a psyop, or did the official history we all got just completely memory hole the most crucial parts of the story? it really feels like it has to be one or the other. no in-between
