Competitive. It's really that simple. Give a group of russkies a chance to gather in a small semi-controllable group and wreak havoc - they'll be all over it. Dota ain't even the best example. Just look at EVE Online.

Some statistics shoud be good. I did not play tf2 yet, maybe low barriers to entry matter.
Its all about team games. Russians schoolkids like to play with a them friends more than solo. Plus russian mentalitet's feature - to take simple things (like a dota) and to improvise with it into kinda crazy ways.
Fuck, well I guess it's indie, either way it's better than most triple A games out there. And yes it's competitive, the scene isn't very big in Europe or big enough to have million dollar tournaments but it has tournaments and a competitive side in NA. Also....
